Donating to VEE

The Endowment’s Board of Directors created the Fund for the Virginia Environmental Endowment (VEE) to enable donations to support the organization’s grant-making, as outlined below. While VEE does not intend or wish to compete with its many partners for donations, the Fund is ideal for friends of the Endowment and those who wish to contribute to environmental improvement but are unsure where to direct their support.

What is the Fund for the Virginia Environmental Endowment?

The Fund for the VEE is a committee-advised donor fund supporting environmental grant-making throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Fund enables donors to make tax-deductible charitable contributions in support of VEE’s grant-making to outstanding and well-vetted nonprofit organizations. The Fund is governed by a committee consisting of VEE’s Board of Directors with grant-making assistance by VEE’s Executive Director and staff.  Additional administrative support for the Fund is provided by the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation.

Why was the Fund established?

Until now, donations to support the work of the Virginia Environmental Endowment were not tax deductible. Rather, VEE has used court settlement funds and investments to capitalize its nearly 40 years of grant-making. The Endowment will continue to make grants from its corpus. The new Fund for VEE was created to bolster VEE’s efforts to raise additional capital to support enhanced environmental grant-making throughout the Commonwealth. Donations will be used to directly benefit strategic grant-making to nonprofit organizations throughout Virginia, including the Charlottesville region, that advance innovative programs and projects to improve local water quality, Chesapeake Bay restoration, land conservation, environmental literacy, and emerging issues such as climate change adaptation. Contributions to the Fund will not be used to support VEE’s general operations.
